Kelly Sheehan, MSW, LICSW, OSW-C
After many years in the work force, Kelly pursued her passion and received her MSW from Rhode Island College in 2012. She has worked in many hospitals in Rhode Island and throughout Massachusetts in both medical and psychiatric settings. Kelly has worked in outpatient private practices, as well and is happy to have landed at Compassionate Healing. Kelly is an independently licensed therapist in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She works with young adults, adults, and seniors. Kelly has spent several years working in an oncology clinic, supporting clients and their caregivers dealing with cancer diagnoses. She also enjoys working with clients going through adjustment difficulties, troubles with relationships, LGBTQIA+ concerns, and folks going through transitional challenges. Kelly works with individuals who identify as adult children of alcoholics (ACOA), and people struggling with perfectionism and procrastination. She also sees clients coping with grief, and loss, and with those struggling with anxiety and depression.
Kelly believes that seeking therapy takes courage and that clients need connection, trust, and a safe space for their innermost thoughts and feelings. Therapy can be challenging work, but with it, comes the freedom to more fully enjoy life. Kelly can assist clients with identifying strengths, processing emotions and reviewing old patterns and beliefs, while looking at new and different ways of examining life. Clients will work with Kelly to develop healthier coping skills, increase self-awareness, and find the ability to express themselves fully and learn techniques for self-love and forgiveness in a non-judgmental atmosphere. She ensures to tailor her approach to each specific client, however, she tends to utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance-based, person-centered, solutions-focused, strengths-based perspectives, as well as mindfulness practices to help and empower her clients.
